Turbo is the biggest "wake up" you can really give these things. Dave Sponaugle will be able to fill you in on all the other mods you can do for power.
how do you turn up the IP and how do you tell how much youre turning it up? whats a safe level? exhaust is as open as it can be...4 inch straight from the turbo to a 6 inch tip. are you guys saying turbo as in...replace the turbo?
Factory as in stock Ford turbo which was an ATS design or an ATS aftermarket turbo?
Stock Ford ATS turbo has a flattened out 2.25" ID down pipe.
ATS aftermarket has a 3" ID round down pipe.
What are you running for EGT's and boost numbers?
Do you have any black smoke when you are standing on the throttle?
What do you have for air intake to the air cleaner?
how do you use your truck?
that's the problem when you get into lifting them up and putting big tires on,your increasing your gear ratio.
you took away your low end grunt.
did you gear down already? if so,to what gears?
what gears does your f350 have factory.
for example if you had 3.55's to start with, and you had say 31" tires stock.(thats roughly how tall 235/85/16's are)
by putting on 37.5" tires, you would have put your effective gear ratio at 2.93:1!!!!
good for highway use.but if you try to come on to her,or tow a load, its now going to feel like a turd.
hopefully you had 4.10's to start with this would put you around 3.39:1 now.but that's still not performance gearing by any means.
even if im off, basically, going to those 37.5 inch tires, this robbed you of your, off the line/grunt/pulling capabilities and unless you gear her back down, its going to feel doggy.
this i would say is your biggest performance increase your looking for.you need to make her feel like a truck again with some gears.
if i used that calc correctly, its saying you need to toss some gears of around 5.00:1 to get you back where your started (if you had 31's and 4.10:1 gears stock.)
also keep in mind,if its 4x4 you will need to match them up.(so if you put 5.00:1 in the rear,i think you need 4: 99.1 in the front)
this is a basic example thread on gearing.please don't take any measurements here as any facts at all.
not sure of egts and boost numbers, planned on taking truck to first capital 4wd, and fiding out what its running along with getting some gauges hooked up to monitor some engine aspects, what would you guys recommend? pyro? boost? trans? ...what? no to very little black smoke, ive never noticed any...intake and air cleaner is stock
to be honest, i have no idea what gears are in it. i would guess factory gears. this truck is used to drive daily for work pulling a landscape trailer with about 5-6000 pounds on it, and pull a trailor with a drag car to the track.
