I have a 1993 F250 4x4 with 351 and 5spd. I have a gutted out cat ( don't need emissions) and the square tubes that run off of it have rusted at the cat and one broke off when i was trying to move it out of the way to replace O2 sensor, and other one looks to be close behind. I was wondering if i remove my rusty and empty cat and just run the 3' pipe directly to muffler, what do i do with these square pipes, guess they are part of emissions, but was wondering if i can just loop them together or what??
I'm trying to keep truck running well and better gas milage, hence replacing the original O2 sensor
Sounds like they are the smog pump lines. The exhaust shop left mine open and tied up when they did my cat delete. You could run a new serpentine to bypass the smog pump if you want. There was only one line on my 5.0 though.

Just a question - won't the 02 sensor downstream of the now missing cat give a bad reading to the computer, possibly leaning the mixture as it thinks that the exhaust gas coming out of the (missing cat) is too fuel rich? Anyone have an opinion on this?
+1, and in case you don't quite know what "everything" is, see the pic/link below, all that attaches to the air pump. You could then leave the air pump there to act as an idler pulley, or gut it to make a true idler pulley, or remove it and install a shorter belt.
Dead on, I bought the truck in California, brought it to AZ - no smog rules here (rural AZ). When I was looking for a truck, saw alot in Cal that were for sale cheap because people had given up on getting them smogged or just quit driving them because of the high Cal fuel prices. They just park them and the fines add up, then to buy it and leave it in California I saw fines ranging from 1000 to 2500 dollars to get them re-licensed, depending how long they had sat.
THanks for the info guys. Sorry about the self bump, but I wrecked my O2 sensor trying to remove it and have to take my truck to muffler shop to get it cut out and new piece welded in, just needed to know if I can just do without the lines to the cat. Sounds like both lines from smog pump and I can do without them and the rusty cat.
Thanks mat
