If your talking about changing / flushing the HPOP it worth doing IMHO. Takes about three quarts of oil and some Prolong or another product of your choice. It does make a difference.
you get somehting similar to a turkey baster lol and suck it out, its not worth pulling a line and getting air in the HPOP system and making a huge mess, just look behind the hpop! its death! just suck out all the oil and refill.
In my opinion the changing of the oil in the HPOP reservoir is a waste of time. Once the engine runs the oil in reservoir is replaced in less than 30 seconds. The maybe two quarts in the reservoir isnt going to make a difference in the grand scheme of almost 4 gallons involved in the oil change. The unfiltered oil you put in the reservoir will be much more harmful than the supposed "dirty" oil in there. Just a thought....... I have watched the videos on powerstrokehelp, take them with a grain of salt guys. As a professional diesel technician with lots of ford experience there is a lot of misinformation that he gives. There appears to be a lot of his opinion and not fact. Just my two cents fellas
Thanks Doc. I am more concerned about what he said about the leaking dipstick coupling on the side of the oil pan. He really made some scary remarks about majorly screwing up just by tightening it. Not sure what to think about that.
A leaking dipstick fitting in the oil pan isnt the end of the world. The correct way to repair it would be to remove the oil pan and replace the seal and reassemble. However nobody wants to remove an engine just for that. You can try seeing if the fitting is loose first of all, dont get crazy cranking on it but try snugging it up. If leak persists, you could try to seal it up from the oustide. Get a can of brake clean and remove all the oil film and dirt from around the area. Using some rtv silicone("the right stuff" by permatex I think) apply it around the fitting and allow it to cure. I would reccoment doing this when you change engine oil and the crankcase is empty. If possible drain the pan for the oil change, clean the area, and apply the sealant. Let it sit overnight and fill the oil in the morning. At this point if it still leaks you arent out anything but a little time. I have used the right stuff in an application like this before and it works really well. On a side not if the dipstick fitting is the source of your leak and the oil level is low to that point it could be a cause to your engine dieing and hard to restart concern.
I read on this post 3 quarts and then 2 quarts. I don't have any facts but I think its 3/4 of a quart in the HPOP reservoir. I don't worry about that little of 'dirty' oil getting mixed in with the new stuff because I run the FS2500 oil bypass filter that does a good job of cleaning oil. Even if I didn't have the extra filter I wouldn't change it, waste of time IMHO.
Ok alot of info to consider. I will change the oil maybe change some in the HPOP but I really want to get back out there and try the dipstick sealant idea. Thanks
Change the oil in the res if you wish , if Ford thought is was needed , they would have made it easy to do .Then you can stress over what to do about the oil in the heads & the oil cooler, & every where else there may be dirty oil
Fix the IPR O ring (cheap test) Or the leaking injector O ring , it will be fine ...
