2004 F350 issues

I have a 2004 F350 Diesel that has approx. 190,000 miles on it. I had a slow leak in the radiator and was monitoring it until the one I ordered came in. The other day I was driving (not far - maybe 15 mins @ 45 mph)and the temp gauge started to go up. The truck did not get into the hot zone. I pulled into the drive way and added water to the radiator. The truck then started blowing white smoke out the exhaust. I let the truck sit overnight and looked at it the next day. There is no water in the oil and the exhaust fumes were back to normal and smelled like a diesel exhaust, but there was water rushing out of the muffler. There is no rod knocking and the truck still runs. I have not driven it since it got warm. Any ideas as to what the issue could be?

Thanks,

Joe

I would say blown hg. The factory temp guage is really not that good by the time it starts to show getting hot it is to late. It's really more like a dummy gauge

HG and/or EGR cooler/oil cooler issues. Either way, expensive.

Egr cooler for sure, head gasket failures do not cause white smoke out of the tail pipe it causes the reservoir cap to vent.
