2004 should work fine. 05 is when they changed to the style & shape.

I swapped to 2004 lights and markers on my 1999. Worked just fine.

Can the lights off of the 05 and up be fitted to the earlier trucks? My brother in law wants to update his 01.

Yes, they'll fit. There are several other threads on this. I believe you need the adjusting screws from the newer lights as well as having to trim the header panel. (the sheet metal panel that the lights bolt to) I haven't tried it yet, but from what I hear it isn't difficult if you're handy with tools. You can also choose between the standard chrome and the black HD edition, depending on the look you're going for.

They're available at RiffRaff and Clay's customer service is top notch.

On the 2005 conversion you will need to trim your header panel, but besides that you are good since the adjusters on the 05' headlights are in the assembly.

That and you have to do something to the wiring since the plug for the older headlights won't work with the 05's. Looks like Clay has those available. You just need to know something is needed before you do the swap.
