was unable to start my ex on several cold cold days last winter, don't want to be there again this year, so I am replacing the 5yr old battery with something with a little more CCA found in these batteries. I am paying alot more yes, but possibly will see several years more use out of a set of batteries... Will this equal out? probably not, peace of mind at -40c possibly!
I've got the same problem. -25, snow in the forecast, my car's driver's side wiper arm just failed (now that's a critical failure!), so go to grab the truck and the battery is too far drained to start it, the truck having sat unused for two months so have it on the chrager right now. (New battery from the dealer last spring.)
I'm again thinking of a battery like this, dual batteries with an isolator or solar charger or some solution. I can't have a new battery draining completely and freezing. Thought this was interesting...
"Hawker Energy has for numerous years been building such batteries for the military and has recently gone through a $9 million expansion so it now can offer this military-spec battery to the public. Labeled under the name Odyssey Dry Cell, it's classified as both a high-pulse-rate discharge (for engine cranking) and a 100-percent depth deep-discharge battery. What this breaks down to is that you're getting two batteries in one,"
..."Note three features of the battery post: First, it's made of brass. Second, the area intended for the battery cable clamp is knurled for positive contact. And third, the center is drilled and tapped for a 3/8-inch bolt as an accessory mount." source: Willie Worthy, Hawker Energy Products Odyssey Battery PC1700 - A New Top Gun In Town?, Hawker Energy's Odyssey Battery, Fourwheeler.com
I think HYPE has leaked into the battery market like everything else. My Walmart battery does everything you could want it to (supply juice!) and does it for a long time.

I'm not so sure about that...
