Auto Trans Swap?
I'm starting to collect parts for a 2WD to 4x4 conversion for my 86 F150. I want to know which automatic 4x4 tranmission will be the easiest to swap in for the original AOD trans. And also which transfer cases will fit with that trans. The truck won't see any towing just the street and some mild offroading.

A 4x4 AOD should fit. Any year Ford transfer case will fit on any year Ford 4x4 tranny. For the easiest swap though, stay with the linkage and transfer case from a 80-up 4x4. Your best and cheapest solution to this project is to buy a wrecked or good used 4x4 with a blown engine. Then you would get the frontend, driveshafts, tranny/transfer case, 4x4 linkage and lever, etc.
