Tim, That's the funny part, I live in Northern California, about 90 miles from the Oregon border. It's more like "Northern Exposure" than "Point Break". And although we are on the coast, we have the greatest concentration of shark attacks on the coast, yet surfing here is as popular as it is anywhere. We also have legal marijuana, so maybe that's the connection...

The local tire shop isn't a Ford Truck sponsor though
(couldn't help but put in a blatant plug )

I'm glad you all are doing your homework!

We do the best we can with our pricing. We promise in stock inventory, same day shipping, and delivery within 2 business days almost anywhere in the US. Many places promise lower prices but don't actually have what you want in stock.

Bottom line is that these tires are expensive to ship and many local shops can take advantage of scale pricing by buying in quantity. Some shops will match or beat us but do it to get the business from us, not make a profit. There is not much margin in this industry, and we find there is rarely things like "free shipping" and "buy 3 get one free". We prefer to be up front with what you are paying for.

Sometimes we are not the cheapest, but we try. If you can get what you want from a local guy at a price you are willing to pay, AND they are being honest with you about price and delivery than go for it. But if you one of most who have local guys that cannot or will not get what you want at the price you are willing to pay we will be here, just like we have been for 30 years.

The Tire Rack is happy to be here, and I am glad to be representing them. If anyone here ever needs anything, even if you don't plan to buy from us, please call me.

The problem I had is the tires I wanted to try were not available at the tire stores around here (and we have many) TireRack had what I wanted at a decent price. The only thing I regret is that I didn't buy wheels at the same time and have them shipped mounted and balanced. That's what I get for listening to the wife.

Back a couple of decades ago when almost all passenger cars and light duty trucks had 14 or 15 inch rims, local shops had your size in stock. The problem today is the proliferation of OE tire sizes, plus those horrid run-flats on some. That gives an advantage to the Tirerack business model.

I hate shopping for tires.

I have several annoyances- for example, Sam's Club has a great deal on their mounting/balancing/road hazard package, but they only carry a very limited range of tire brands (and it's never what I want). There is another local shop that I believe is a Tire Rack certified installer, and they have lots of brands, but it seems like if you try to get a price from them on a tire they don't have in stock, they are very reluctant to give you a price on it. Plus, seemingly every shop in town charges around $18 a tire to mount and balance which in my opinion is flippin' rediculous.

My car is due up for tires and I may just order the tires from tire rack, and then take them up to wally world to have them mounted, since I know they only charge like $10 a tire for mounting and balancing.
