1946 1 ton where to find running boards????

slotted boards
Hi,
I have a 1940 one ton and my running boards have the slot for the bolt underneath which makes them hidden. I could be wrong, but I think this is true for 1940 and earlier. Starting in 1941 is when I think the mounting system changed.
If I had to make up a set, what seems to me to be the hardest to duplicate would be the bead runs along the length of the board, I would make a cardboard mock up copy and take it to a metal shop for a prototype. The other bends are relatively simple to make. if you had a rusty pair, you might try a fiberglass overlay.
best of luck,
mpr

My driver side is perfect but the pass side is all bent out of shape and dented in many places but there is no rust someone had put bondo in many spots! I could repair it but it would take a lot of time it would just be easier to find one that was still straight and still has all its metal intact!

I have been searching for about 2 years now (off and on) and it is proving to be all but impossible. I found one set, but it would have required alot of work. I found a place that sells decent metal working stuff (bead rollers, brakes) for a decent price. I might just buy the equipment and try and make my own. Either that or I will take the existing ones to a metal shop and have set custome made.

I wish thats all that was wrong with mine, then I would just fix them, but unfortunatly, they are very rusty as well.

Well if I can't find a replacement I will have to repair it! I thought about having a local metal fabricating place copy the original and make me a set out of diamond plate to either replace them or cover them but have no idea how much that would cost! I have seen a 46 with homemade wood running boards that looked nice but I would like metal if possible!

I should have a pair of shorts off my 1/2 ton kicking around somewhere that I don't need if they will help anyone. You can email me if anyone needs them. CapeCanal@comcast.net

'46 Ford run boards
I am in Jacksonville, Fl. 32211. 904 477-7732. They are straight & solid with some surface rust. I have the mounting brackets to frame as well. I am not familar with the measurements but believe they are the longer ones @ approx 5 1/2' to 6' long. I think I have pics & can e mail them if you e mail me @ wap1949@comcast.net. Thanks.
