Need help

Just bought a 1991 F700 dump truck. Manual Shift.
Have truck shop manual, It says to use SAE-50 Engine Oil.
Is that right? NOT gear oil.

Even the 435NP in my '74 highboy called for 50W. They've been using that stuff for a long long time.
