According to my VIN # (F11YRU02016) my truck is a 1974 F100 4x4 with a 360 V8. However I have front leaf springs not coils and I believe that its a 390 not the 360. Due to the badges on the valve covers. I don't know if I have a "Heavy Half" or a F250 altogether. Any help would be nice. Also is the 360 and 390 completely different or some what similar? Email me @ tsoptich@hotmail.com
360 and 390 are both in the same family share blocks and other components. Where did you pull the VIN# from? How many ply springs? How many lug nuts hold your rim on? If you answert these maybe we can help you shine a light on it.
Thank you for the Engine info, I got the VIN# from the dash when you look through the Windshield, the are 4 springs in the pack, 5 lugs hold the wheel on I think, I will have to take another look.
There are no VIN plates that can bee seen through the windshield. Along with this unkown as well as the leaf spring deal, we may have to investigate further.
VIN does appear to be a 74 F100 4x4 with a 2bbl 360 from the San Jose plant.
Thats just the VIN. This in no way means that what the chassis is, nor does it mean that this s exactly what this vehicle is.
FE engines are visually identical, and since the valve covers are interchangeable, this is probably not a sure methid of verification.
For example, my honda generator has a 460 4V and powered by ford sticker set on it, so even stickers are not positive identification.
I have to title in hand. and my dad verified the VIN for me. so i was assuming that I got it from the windshield. I am thinking that I got the F100 body on a F250 chassis. Is there a chassis VIN to find out? I will work on getting some pictures. of the truck. Thanks for the help guys.
yeah. the "heavy half" is the f150, not the f100, and it too has coils. if the axles are 5 lug, then it is a half ton. if they are 8 lug, they are 3/4 or one ton. if it says 100 but has 8 lug axles and leafs, then it is probable that the cab was swapped as all the cabs were the same with different badges.
VIN number is between the firewall and shock tower on the pass side - as well as under the passengers but area (see pic below). But you can't see this without taking the cab off.
VINs can be stamped somewhat lightly - so it may take some real scrubbing to find it. Living in an area where frames rust makes it even trickier.
Pic taken from the front of where the bed would be on the driver side - looking forward
