no voltage when testing sensor

hello Iam new to this form and have a few problems with my 89 5.8l Iam getting codes for the egr complete system failure and voltage along with tps sensor and hego. Truck idles low and rough then smoothes out a bit. I went to check the voltage at the egr sensor and could not get voltage reading pulled off plug and hooked up a volt meter. am i doing something wrong. also all my other lights work except headlights.

See www.fordfuelinjection.com for lots of details about the sensors and how to test them.

If you have a voltage problem at multiple sensors then you may have a wiring problem or even a computer fault since the computer generates the reference voltage for these devices.

yeah I checked out that website was really good. just dont know if i did it wrong you would think there would be power their. You dont need to back probe it do you

when checking for volts you just disconnect the connecter on the harness side and use a voltmeter don't you. do you have to drive the probes in their or just get them on the metal
