pick up coil gone bad, stuck valve, bent push rod?

still no luck. changed injectors and same thing, so i changed high pressure pump same thing. fuel pressure still erratic. it's weird because it won't do it untill you push the release button on fuel pressure tester. after you do that it stays the same even after i shut it off. and for some reason my relay still isnt working, i didnt get a chance to check the wiring. i think it's weird that it works when you jump it and not with a relay. which stll could be my relay. i don't know, i am just about ready to change it to carb or set it on fire.

i have been doing a lot of reading on the web. i ended up finding a guy that had a 460 that was doing the exact same as mine. i emailed him and talk to him this morning. he changed everything i did. the only things i never really looked at are my plug wires. aslo my manifolds are leaking but i figured that was because of it not running right and the manifolds getting red blew them out. said he changed his manifolds and plug wires and fixed him right up. said when the plug wires get hot with the leaking manifolds they break down and cause it to act up. think i might try it.

i have been thinking about it all day. i kinda makes sense. if both manifolds are leaking, they can be throwing off the 02 sensor makeing it run rich, with could be why my plugs are black. i did check the ohms on the plug wires but i still have number 3 not acting like the others. i need to change the fuel filter and i hope that takes the erratic fuel pressure away.

yeah i figure the fuel filter won't change anything, but i have changed everything for the fuel system besides the filter. it's not very old but has been sitting for a while, thinking maybe the inside of the filter has come apart. i would think that would be the only thing that is causing the erratic pressure. i don't know what else to do, i have tried everything we have talked about. the plugs yeah i prolly will take them back and have advance auto warranty them, i have had them do that before for motorcraft plugs.

There are two hot wires to the fuel pump relay, one is a large Yellow and one a Red wire.
The Yellow comes from a Fuse Link near the starter relay and the red wire comes from the EEC Power Relay.
The Power from the Yellow wire is what is switched on and off that goes to the Inertia Switch and then on to the Fuel Pump(s) over a Brown wire (Pink wire with a black stripe after the Inertia switch).
The Red wire from the EEC Power Relay also goes to all of the injectors, solenoids and the computer.
The Tan wire with a green stripe goes to the EEC Self-Test Connector and then another wire is spliced to it at pin #6 and goes to the computer pin #22 so the computer can ground this wire to turn on the fuel pumps.
Here is a Diagram:

What do you mean by "if i jump the plug it runs". Are you talking about shorting pin #6 to Pin #2 (ground) of the EEC Self-Test plug (Connector) with the key on?
#178
no, i jump the plug the relay plugs into. take a short piece of wire, and connect to both hot wires on the plug
i was thinking last night, we were messing around with those relays and one of the terminals was kinda messed up so when we fixed it is when the relay stopped working. I never even thought to check to see if the inerita switch had tripped

Jumping it that way means the Inertia Switch is OK.
But jumping it that way will not tell you very much as you bypass too many items.
You need to be shorting pin #6 to Pin #2 or ground of the EEC Self-Test plug (Connector) with the key on. That way you will be checking both the EEC Power Relay, Fuel Pump Relay, there power sources and the Ignition switch.

well i got my relay to work again. started looking at everything and come to find out my friend that was helping me friday had a wire come out of the plug to the relay. i was looking at the relay and noticed the brown wire was in not connecting to a pin on the relay. he accidently put in the wrong slot. thought it was wierd if i use the brown wire and yellow wire to jump, the brown wire was going to anything on the relay, i moved the wire and i now have that fixed. that was a big relief.
