Question about Fenders.

I have a short bed off of a 1953 or 54 Ford Truck. What I'm wondering is if the fenders off of a 1951-1952 Ford truck will bolt on?

With aqlittle creativity you can make anything fit...lol

The bed box is identical from late 1950 up through somewhere in the 1970's. The late 50-52 fenders have a different shape from the 53 and up fenders so the bolt holes won't line up. All 53 and up fenders have the same shape but at some point in the 60's or 70's they moved the location of the fenders on the bedside up a couple of inches.

You can do anything youlike on these beasts. Shoot a big hammer, a little super glue and some duct tape and you are good to go.

The only problem is that the 51/52 F1 fenders were different from F2 thru F6. The later ones were indented to conform to the sides of the 8 ft "Express Box." Plus they are 2 1/2inches wider on the F1 than those on the F2 thru F6. So long story short, the F2 thru f6 fenders will not fit because of the indents.

And I don' think when properly mounted on the bed such that the fender opening is centered over the wheel, the front edge of the Bonus Built fender will meet the running board of the Effie - too long I think. You can move it back some but then the wheel opening is off.

The Bonus Built fenders are larger and rounder than the Effie Fenders. And honestly, the Effie fenders should be MUCH easier to find. I might be tempted to sell the Bonus Built fenders you have and buy some Effie Fenders......Probably make a few $$$ in the transaction!

The 1951 Rear fenders I was going to buy were off of an F1. And I need to make new running boards so those won't be an issue. I was just wondering if the bolt holes were the same because I don't wanna have to patch the old ones and drill new ones.

I have a 56 short box I am doing the same as you , I found out the bolt holes will not match up , so welding it is going to be . I could have got the good 56 fenders but I never liked the style on a 51 .

Jules,

The bedsides with the indentions are the 48-mid 50 beds. I believe that both the 1/2 ton and the larger Express beds had the indentions in the bed sides. These beds also had the curved stake pockets. In mid 1950 ford changed over to the flat sided beds with the square stake pockets.
Here's a shot of the earlier bed with indentions;

Here's a pic of a 1952 bed;

These are both 1/2 ton trucks. The larger trucks with the Express bed have fenders with larger wheel openings and the fenders are slightly narrower due to the beds being wider.

Like you said, anything is possible. I like the looks of our Bonus Built fenders alot better than the 53 and up fenders as well
