I have a 2001 5.4L superduty with 258,000 km I have decided to use the motorcraft oil filter instead of fram. I am using Valvoline max life full synthetic (for vehicles over 120,000 KM). Would you guys suggest I stick with this oil or a specific motocraft oil for my truck?
As far as the filter, I think you are doing the right thing by using Motorcraft.
You reached 160,000 miles on whatever oil, I would stick with it. Unless it was beginning to burn too much, then a heavier oil for older engines might help prolong the inevitable.
Maybe you just bought the truck, and don't know what it has been running in the past?
The oil is good, but a bit pricey imo. But I would keep using it in your case. The Motorcraft Synthetic blend is hard to beat for the price. As far as filter, I have always used Motorcraft on my Fords.
Do I have to wait until my car reaches 75,000 miles before I can use MaxLife?
Valvoline MaxLife motor oil is designed for high mileage vehicles of 75,000 miles or more. However, it is perfectly acceptable for use in new or used vehicles with less than 75,000 miles.
How is MaxLife Synthetic motor oil different from SynPower Synthetic motor oil?
MaxLife Synthetic motor oils contain stop leak additives to help with oil consumption and extra detergents to help with the cleaning of an older engine.
Unless my engine needed one of the features listed in paragraph #2, I would just use a regular brand name oil. There isn't a dimes worth of difference in most of them.
