Torque Converter Trouble?
I've got an '86 F-150 with a 302 and an AOD transmission. I've been having some shifting issues lately, and gotten advice from a couple people, but I'd like to see if anyone can confirm this before I go opening the thing up to replace parts.
When I drive the truck normally, everything shifts fine. If I step on the gas, the engine will over-rev, possibly several times, and then the next gear will catch - sometimes. Sometimes I have to let off the gas before it'll shift at all. Both people I've talked to (one a former Ford mechanic, and he drove the vehicle to see if he could detect the problem) think it's probably the torque converter - since it shifts properly unless I open up the throttle. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any thoughts?
