hi all, need some fast help. wife is looking at 05 ranger tomorrow. 3.0, 4 spd. auto, ext. cab 76,000 miles, xlt. what kind of milage can she expect on the road, and just kickin around. wife drives easy. also, is the 3.0 a good motor? thanks, dave.
the 3.0 is a long-life motor, not quite as powerfull as the 4.0 but can get the job done, it makes its power higher in the rpm band than the other ranger engines, i have one in a taurus chassis that is quite good on gas, will get 28 highway, dont know what gearing the taurus has, but it is lighter and more areodynamic than a ranger. my ranger is a 4.0 with 3.73's and the 5 speed manual, best ive ever gotton is 19.5

+ 1. The 3.0's are great motors, and as long as you drive it easy, and keep the speed down, it should do alright on gas. Hopefully the gears are not any deeper than 3.73 on a 2WD Ranger for mileage sake.
BTW: the 215K mile 3.0 '94 Taurus in my driveway will get 25-27 MPG mixed driving, and 30+ hwy. They have a .69 4th gear, and a 3.37 axle ratio.
thanks for the replys, wife bought the ranger today, and it really seems like a nice tight truck. talked to the last owner and he said he bought it brand new in 05, so it's a one owner. said it always got around 20. can live with that. cant find out about the axle, door tag say's d under the axle spot. dave.
