I am planning on making my own rear xmember for the transmission mount but just in case you guys have a better idea.
What front and rear mounts have you guys used in such a combination?
In addition I want to run headers. I am keeping the stock solid axle it that makes a difference. I plan to port the exhaust just in front of the rear wheels out the sides. Basically just beyond the side step. What headers do you suggest? Shorties, long tubes or what is best.
I can't offer anything on your header selection.. But when setting your engine/trans in, carefully watch your anticipated/resulting pinion angle..depending how low your engine goes in..the better your angle will be. Do a search on trans crossmembers, John Niolin came up with a pretty simple and rugged design..Read all you can on the pinion angle ,build what's needed vs over the counter....you will feel better understanding you have what you need vs needing what you don't have or can't get......Good Luck!
Thanks, that is one reason I want to build the rear xmember. I have experience with setting pinion angles. This tells me I should proceed with my initial plan. However I have not built front mounts before and concerned about getting them right. I was thinking of rigging the engine and tranny in place and building the mounts around it while in place. This should take some of the math out of it.
I agree completely, once ride HT is established, setting the engne/trans /rear axle in together..blocking the engine/trans in where you want it, then fabbing up some engine mounts for your best fit after considering oilpan clearence,exhaust/steering etc..seemed to be the easiest way for me..., and makes for a custom look. Good Luck and Post some progress Pics!

That's the right approach. Here are pictures of my mounts but I used a Volare suspension and offset the engine about two inches to the right. You could use a similar approach. The mounts are 79 T-Bird and the frame mounts are made from stuff I had laying around. I will be using 65/66 Mustang exhaust manifolds which empty at the rear...
