hey guys new to the site, when i started getting problems with my truck i decided to join here.
anyway
97 f250 diesel auto eo40d
when i put the truck in drive it dies, like an electrical shut off. it does not do this in reverse or any of the other gears (1) or (2). i dont get it.
also when put in drive, the truck shuts off and the check engine light blinks and the batt light blinks.
dang, i'm not an auto tranny guy but it sounds like maybe one of those wires in the column is messed up and when you move your shifter down that far it shorts it out???? heck i don't have a clue. but this will at least pull your thread up to the top so more people may look at it. sorry i am of no help!!!!!
I'd check the range sensor on the transmission. You'll see it mounted on the driver side of the transmission underneath. Don't remember how much they cost but they aren't too bad...

Somehow you can recalibrate them also, but don't ask me how. I read it once on this site, but didn't do it so it didn't stick.
