Issue 1: The pan gets so hot you cant even touch it. Ive never noticed this before.
Issue 2: Their is a ticking noise coming from it. Best way to describe the noise is if you have ever had a cracked manifold, its abou the same sound but Im 100% its coming from the tranny.
Neighbor had a similar problem and just got an aftermarkey tranny cooler for the heat.... as far as the noise goes... I'd definatly recomend getting a mechanics stethoscope. Mine cost me under $10 and it works great to locate problem engine noises! You'll have to locate the noise before we can give a good prognosis...
aftermarket cooler installs aren't that hard but if you have never done one I would suggest that you look at a couple online tutorials and how to's first... Most of the time the included instructions aren't all that great. one that I read is below... just get a good idea of what to do before you start and the directions in the package make a lot more sense!
I just put an aftermarket cooler on my 93 Flareside. Easy install. It mounted in front of the other radiators (coolant and air conditioning). Had 4 plastic pins that went through all 3 radiators and then buttons that fit on the back side. Hose and hose clamps to connect to the existing lines. I just disconnected my factory one. The aftermarket coolers do such a better job of cooling, they work fine by themselves. I can't remember the brand off hand, but the unit was about $40.
I paid $60 for the unit. Took about 1hr to install (ran into an issue with the piece that screws into the radiator not fitting right). Just have to put the grill back on and be done with it.
Thanks guys. Install was VERY simple and straight foreward.
