Nope...because when you add a picture from your computer, your are actually uploading it to FTE's servers so it has to be stored here.
If you link to an image, it is being stored somewhere else.

If you are a supporter, you can post an attachment that is stored on FTE's servers and displayed with the post. If you're not a supporter all you can do is link to a picture on another server.
The end result is pretty much the same thing, but being able to upload an attachment is a bit easier than finding a hosting service for a pic, uploading it, linking it, etc.
