I am new to the forum and just wanted to follow up on this thread - There is no option with a 2012 nav unit other than the Lockpicks hardware for ~$240?
I am delighted at anybody having great success with voice command, and I suppose technically that is responsive to my question... Truly, I mean no disrespect, I just didn't think I needed to rule that out and I would like to keep things on point for any options other than voice command.
My question was if there was any option other than Lockpicks? There was a backdoor programming option through like 2007, but has anybody found a hack for newer Ford nav units? Just getting rid of the splash screen every time would be a plus. Having my wife program it while we are driving and talking, so we don't have to talk to the car too, that would be great. Johnny Law, as for Lockpicks being used in newer vehicles; you would think the website for a company capable of producing such a high-tech product could update their website, but they have not. I have read remarks about people using it in current production vehicles and their comments were the same across the spectrum of years. Generally positive reviews with occasional issues with the backup camera, complaints about time limits on entering information before you have to tap buttons to get more time, etc.
All, if I need to do so I will start a new thread, but my singular issue is if Lockpicks is the only way to avoid voice command? If that is the case I would be interested in a clear and definitive statement to that effect by an authoritative source.
Just using the front seat passenger airbag sensor would sure seem to give the manufacturer(s) the liability protection they want without disabling many things a front seat passenger could accomplish. Or give people the ability to put the liability on themselves by leaving a back door hack open. Having to come to a stop or interrupt a conversation (phone or in person), a ballgame, etc., just to do some of the functions is highly annoying.

Reason: Clarification
What exactly did they sort out for you? And can you point me to anywhere on their site that talks about the issues I raised? All I can see that they do is sell map updates...

Thanks,

i could not get my new update disc to unlock adn install so emailed them and they helped to resolve.
the customer service was good so i recommend you try them with any issues relating to the navi discs.
OK, thanks. I am looking for a hack, not update disks or help with an update disk problem. And I don't see anything on their site that indicates they do anything but marketing for map updates.

Nothing new except for the Lockpick. I have one in my 12 KR Expy and it works just like it says. Can even turn on the rear camera to watch my trailer when towing. .
I know with an after market in dash nav unit you can simply ground the wire telling the unit the vehicle is in park. Does any one know if this will work with the 2011 navigators factory unit and if so what wire / color of wire controls this.
