My heater core is leaking in my 1999 F150 pickup and a local Ford dealer tells me that it will cost $815.00 plus tax to fix this problem. OUCH !!!!!
The part costs $95.96 and the labor (9 hrs.) is $720.00 OUCH!!!! again.
I know that this is a big project but being unemployed at this time, I have the time to try and do this myself. Does anyone have any step by step instructions for this ????????
Sorry to see you are having problems with your heater. Try posting your questions in the tech section threads, members there will be able to assist you.
I know there is a step by step for a 97 F150 that someone posted sometime ago. You can do a search to find it. If you have problems, let me know and I will try to find the link. Good luck
I followed your step by step, and it was almost perfect. The only thing missing was there were 2 screws hiding under a plastic insert on top of the dash close to the windshield. Once I removed them, the dash pulled out just the way you said it would. I did not have the ford wrench to remove the heater hoses and could not figure out the connection because you can't see them very well. Since the core was leaking anyway, I took my dremmel tool with a cut-off wheel and cut the pipes off on the inside of the firewall. I was able to pull the pipes out into the engine compartment and remove the connections with no trouble.
Today I am going to pickup a new heater core and start putting it back together. If you take your time and follow the instructions it really was easy to take apart. Hope it goes back together the same way!!!
Thanks again for all of the help. Saved about $750.00 by doing it myself !!!!!!!
