ok so heres the deal, i have a 90 f250 4x4 with the 5.8 and e4od, anyways with the specs out of the way, i have a spare hitch that came off a 91 f250 4wd with a 7.3 e4od, ok my crazy/dumb idea/question is can i in any way mount it to the front end of the truck due to i do not need it on the rear ( i know your probably asking why would i need it, no reason immediately, but something to toy with, just something dumb i thought of ) also if im not mistaken dont they sell bumpers that already have a hitch like setup? and what kinda prices, but anyways any ideas if i could do that with a hitch, is the frame skinnier in front, or too soft/weak for that, i know newer trucks ( i have a 97 ranger 2wd thats setup this way) where the front end is "wavy" for the front end crumple, i know the older ones arent, just dont know if it would be plausible/possible without too major modification, sorry for the book i wrote, just its 4am and i get random ideas at this time lol
While I can't say that this hitch would fit the front or not, I can say that with good ole' American ingenuity, anything is possible. My dad and I , when I was in my late teens, took an old Reese hitch from Chevy 3/4 ton and re-engineered it to fit the front frame of his 1979 F2-50 4X4 to make it easier to launch the boat at the lake. We had to gut it, added a solid beam inside the square tubing and welded everything back together to the new dimensions. After I bought the truck from him, it became a mounting point for a winch.
Basically, with the right mindset, anything can be done.
I'm with jplinville on this- even if there's no way to mount it directly or if you can't find some kind of adapter kit, if you know what you're doing and have access to the right materials, it can likely be done.
