Just got rearended (again), this time by an Expedition. Hardly any damage to my plastic bumper shell. Other driver took off, but I got the plate and filed a report. That little MF is going down, he'll have fun in jail, little punk with a pretty mouth. Will update soon.
It was a good solid hit from an Expedition and the bumper held up very well! You have photos of that F100? I'd love to have one, does it have a big steel bumper on the back?
i put a rollpan on the back, the body is going to sit on a 2004 lightning chassis including the supercharged 5.4 , i have been working on this for 4+ years, click on the link i need to ad some pictures, the body is just about ready for paint. f100 pictures by mrford60 - Photobucket
mrford60: Amazing project, can't wait to see more pics.
tcesni: Thanks, I'll keep you posted. Even though it was a minor accident, thank God my wife and child were not in the Escape when it happened. This is the second time in three years I've been rearended in my Escape, the bumper is pretty tough.
I've had three experiences with the rear bumpers in my '05 and '06 Escapes.
The '06 had to have a new bumper cover at three months old due to a rear-ender. It was strictly cosmetic but since it was brand new I got it replaced. A couple years later my wife turned in front of a guy in a '93 Mustang. His front bumper, headlight and foglight were all trashed but mine just had a scuff. Barely noticeable. It has the unpainted dark-grey plastic cover.
The '05 had a low-speed impact with a gas pump bollard that caused a slight tear in the cover. About $700 in damage, mainly because the cover had to be painted and one of the painted trim pieces had to be replaced - and those pieces are stupidly expensive.
I agree though, the bumpers themselves are fantastic. In all three cases the damage was limited to the bumper system like it should be.
