Weird banging sound
It's a loud bang that I'm feeling at my feet. It happens more in gear,, metal to metal It's new since i've done some recent work to it (timing, oil change, spark plugs, engine mounts, carb work) ..
odd question but could this have something to do with my starter? if it were loose or something? don't ask why, just bear with me on this one.
i also didnt tighten on my oil filter, ended up spilling out a lot of my oil while running, I cut it off when i realized it was leaking, ran probably 30 seconds 3+ quarts low.
edit: when I said timing dependent, it seems to get worse if I retard the timing towards factory 8btdc.
im also suspecting this isnt an 80s engine, where can I find out when it came from?
Ford did not make a new casting for each year, and wasn't too particular about which casting they used. To positively ID the year of manufacture, you would need the date codes. According to my resources, Ford conveniently placed these on the block deck, for easy viewing with the heads removed. If the block has been decked, then you need a CSI guy to try and pull it up with acid.
You can only be sure that the engine is not original if it's the wrong displacement or a later model than the vehicle.
this might have something to do with my problems.. I just flipped my driveshaft 180*, it helped some.. but im exhausted.. 30 year old ujoints are not fun to remove. The stupid retainer rings had to be broken apart to remove.. argh.
i hurt
