The irony is that's not true.

All the Tennessee volunteers died at the Alamo(now there is some speculation otherwise, but nothing concrete, theories, but not concrete).

Sam Houston is not, I repeat not a native of TN. Governor yes, native...no. That is something that alot of people don't know or choose to ignore. Sam Houston himself did not recognize himself as a Tennessean, and if he didn't call himself one, I don't think we should either. You have to realize too that back then, nativity was a big deal. A very big deal, moreso then it is now, which is why people have a hard time with the concept of him not being from Tennessee. On his death bed he called himself "Native of Virginia, adopted son of Texas", no mention of Tennessee(people don't speak like that anymore(if you had heard his entire deathbed "speech") it's a shame). As you can tell, that one is something that I come across quite a bit and ironically, people that claim Sam Houston as a Tennessean, don't know a thing other then the John Wayne movie about the incidents surounding that battle and later. The Billy Bob movie from a few years ago had more of the more modern theories of the battle and post incident, but there is still myth in there as well.

The Alamo was a "galvanizing" event, but so was Goliad, in fact, I would argue that it was those two events close together that got people in the "fighting spirit" and thus you had San Jacinto. The Alamo has several things over Goliad, so people don't remember Goliad as much(if at all), so the Alamo gets all the attention. I'm in no means trying to knock the Alamo, that place always has a special place in my heart as a multi-generation native of Texas, but I also have studied it more then most of the lay people as well because of that.

It still is TriState--just down the road from me. I can't read the sticker in the back window to see what it says for sure.

I took my small clan to San Antinio back in April of '04 to see other members of the larger clan. Part of the sites we took in while in town was the Alamo. After visiting it, it's clear why the Mexicans won....they had all those tall buildings to hid behind as they brought in re-enforcements and supplies. Sorry, couldn't help myself..

I love it...I know exactly who I'm going to use that on the next time I see him. He likes to through mud (figuratively) on my Pavement Princess. Sad thing is, even his girl friend loves my truck. Guess there's something about a diesel powered pick-up man!
