Truck in my sig "80 F-150 4x4 351M", threw the timing chain, and its ran great since i replaced that and 3 rods. Well get to drivin it and it would shut off, i would hop out, wiggle the red hot wire that goes into the C clip on the coil, and it fires right up. Well my second time to drive it to school (today) it died on me. I fired it up in the parking lot, gave it about 20 seconds kicked it off high idle, and it dies, thought i flooded it when i went to give it gas when it was starting to stumble. Go to start it back up and cranks but nothing, not stupid enought to stick my finger in their and get zapped. And its a brand new coil, not a month old. Go back 2 hours later thinking I did flood it cause my mind was wondering and still no start, wiggled and everything.
Do yall know if they still sell that C clip that clips on the coil? And where the wires go? Cause im just gonna rewire that hole thing "hopefully"!
What do yall think is wrong with it. Everytime I turn around this truck stumps me.
Help a brother out please.
Try taking the ignition control module off and having it tested at your auto parts store. I had problems like yours and that was what it was. $26.00 at Autozone!

I always stop when I see a Ford Pickup on the side of the road ...
1. Yep ... the Coil Clip at AP stores.
2. Get yourself a wire diagram ... If you can't find one let me know and I'll hook you up with my library ... I got one from them ON LINE ... and just printed it out ...
For a PRO mechanic ... its a PO .... crap ...
But the Ignition system was correct.
3. I just put together an Ignition harness for my 82. New Wire ... and GM Weather Pack connectors at the pickup in the distributor and the two on the module. Anyplace there was a connection (a joint in the wires) ... it got a weatherpac or soldered and heat shrinked.
I even put weather pacs on the spare Ignition parts I carry!!!
I got the male weatherpacs from the junk GM harness I pulled out of a Firebird ... the females and the pins I got from the parts store.
My costs were about $15.00 ... and half an afternoon of soldering and crimping.
