E4OD Swap

I've done some searching and have seen information on this topic but not specifics to my situation. I have a 1989 F-350 4x4 with a new 460 (chassis has 164k). My E4OD is shot. In order to repair the rig and keep it feasible from a cost prospective I've been looking for a used/rebuilt transmissions. Quotes to repair mine have ranged from $1,600 to $3,500. I found a rebuilt E4OD out of a 1992 F-350 4x4 460. It was built by a respected shop in town and the shop owner has verified the work. It also has a new billet torque converter. It was never installed. I can get it for $900 and I have help to do the R & R in my garage. It seems obvious that it will bolt up. But what are these code problems I've been hearing about and if you find you have a programming problem after the install what can you do to fix them?

Not sure what code problems you are referring too, but your original trans. and the '92 E4OD are pretty much the same. In 1995 Ford changed the connector for the MLPS and Solenoid Pack. Your 89 to 92 swap should be a plug-n-play. If the rebuilt trans. was updated with the newer style MLPS/Solenoid Pack there are connector kits available from Ford to convert your existing connectors. Great find!
