Transmission trouble and codes
I'm driving a '99 F350 Diesel Automatic with 137K miles on the original transmission. Yesterday, it started shifting strangely-didn't want to come out of first, but finally did. Then didn't want to upshift again..etc. I noticed the overdrive lite was blinking. When I finally pulled off the road the transmission was so hot it was spewing ATF. I checked that I still had a good ATF level, let it cool down and managed to get it to my friend who has a code reader. We got P0741, P0733 and P1783 codes.
I'm hoping that there is someone out there who knows enough to tell me what is the best course of action. The torque converter has always been super loud on this truck, so I have been expecting it to fail, but before I replace it or (gulp) the entire tranny, maybe there is a cheaper course of action.
