windshield wiper blades...

sorry if this topic has been beaten to death but I remember reading somewhere here that I could use longer wiper blades than what come factory but now I need new blades and can't find where I read that...

has anyone here done this?

what kind of blades do you use? whatever is on the shelf at the parts store? or a particular brand that you feel works the best? I have seen the expensive PIA ones but are they really worth the extra money? I live in So Cal and normally just buy the cheapest ones because it doesn't rain very often here and the summer sun kills them...but I thought i'd ask everyones opinion on this.

Thanks!

I use 24-inch silicone blades. Though more expensive, they seem to last much longer. I'm in SoCal too.

If I were to do it over again, I'd use a 22-incher on the passenger side.

I use the rainx lattitude, they work good. I have had the cheaper ones they seem to work as good but these seem to hold up longer. As for the lenth i just have the 20 inch blades, i think i saw somewhere that someone had 22 inch wiperblades.

Trico Neo-forms are a good choice, their a good all season design. with the frameless ice won't bind the frame. And I run a 24" on the drivers side and a 22" on the passenger side, also

wipers

I use the Bosch Icon wipers. They are definitely a bit pricey, but they have the best performance I have found so far.....and that includes while plowing in blinding snow storms! I usually replace them every fall.....whether they really need it or not.

Size-wise, I usually use 22's

That's what I used too. Although I had a 24" on the passenger side too. The curve at the edge of the windshield placed a lot of load towards the outside of the blade and ended up separating the blade within 6 months. I ended up getting 22" for both sides and am very happy now. They clear a little more area than the stock 20" blades, but don't get stressed by the curvature of the windshield. I could easily go to 24" on the driver's side, but I'm sure my OCD would kick into overdrive when the driver's side swath would be just a bit higher than the passenger's!

I also replace my blades every 6 months to make sure I'm ready for the 4 days of rain each year in San Diego!

+1 on the Rainex. I chose to only go with 22". The 24's may rub the window seal a little bit and I don't think you will really notice much difference. For me the 22's were a good compromise.

If you use 24" on the passenger's side, you'll have to bend it around the radio antenna when you lift the arm to clean the windshield or replace the blade also.

I didn't have any rubbing issues with the 24" blades on either side. The single arm style (like the Neo-Forms) do great in the wind (the 24's didn't lift or chatter at 75mph), but I went down to the 22's because of the curvature of my windshield. I've read of guys going as high as 26" blades...

100% ditto here - Bosch Icon every fall when there is usually a great promo (buy one get one or $15 back on 2). Current promo through EOY is located at:

ICONic Rebate Offer

And no, I don't work for them...

24" did not rub on either side with my '03. I could easily go to 26" without rubbing the seal around the window.

I tried a 24" Bosch Icon on the drivers side, mainly b/c of the price I went with 1 first. I have to say I'm not real impressed, the older pass. side is still doing a better job than the newer Icon (don't recall what brand it is ), especially for the price. Icon is streaking, ticks me off. Just my .02
