Motor swap

Hokay... Got a 90 fullsize w/351W that's shot. Got another 5.8 from a 95 F150. We plan on swaping the engine harness/airbox etc.. from the 90 to 95. What fresh new hell awaits us when it comes to moving the distributor from the 90 to the 95? Anyone know? Are the two distributors drive gears compatable, shaft lengths, blah blah blah? Please advise. Ohh...Also will the injectors from the 90 fit into the manifold on the 95?

Welcome to FTE and the Big Bronco Forum. We will endeavor to get you the most accurate information we can muster.

To the best of my knowledge the only potential difference would be that some 95's were equipped with mass air instead of speed density injection. I don't believe that changes injector type/size. It WILL however make significant changes to the engine wiring harness and will most likely increase the number of O2 sensors from one to as many as three. The quickest way to determine mass air injection is to check for the air flow sensor in the intake ducting between the air box and the throttle body.

The distributor and so on is not going to be any different regardless of speed density or mass air injection AFAIK.

The intake and injectors are identical on both motors so none of that has to be changed. The distributors are also the same except that the '95 has a steel gear for the roller cam that motor has and the TFI module is remote mounted. That means you need to transfer the drive gear to the '90 distributor before stabbing it in the '95 block. That's it, the motor will drop right in where the other was and connect to the '90 wiring harness.

Thanks for the advice. Paul, the engine harnesses are different but it looks like we can take the harn off the 90 and install on the 95 no problem. We're taking all sensors off the 90 and slapping on the 95 as well. So far so good.

i would leave all the 95 sensors alone and use them. no reason unless the 90 sensors are new.
