I bought an 09 F150 from a dealer before I could actually see the "new" truck. When I got it it had 200 more miles than I thought it would and it had a small scratch in the paint but the kicker is swril marks all over. The scratch was a superficial one and was buffed out. The dealer that I purchased it from (not who originally had the vehicle) offered to buff out the swirl marks made by some idiot from the other lot.
Should I let them do this? Will this not take a layer of clear coat off? Or should I let them and then just wax it after. By the way my last truck I had for two years and never had put swirl marks in the paint. Just use a clean micro fiber hand mit and lightly clean first then get into it after the grime is off rinse hand often. Too bad lot boy couldn't just leave it dirty.
They have some dewalt high speed spinning thing that took the small scratch away but I think they would use it on the whole truck with some special sauce on it.
I should add that they are not really horrible but I am very particular about my paint and noticed it soon as I got home. I did the "sun down test." When the sun is going down you can see them when the light hits. It ticks me off but alot of people never think about it.
I'd have them do it that way if they screw up its on them. A guy at my work got some polyethelene resin all over the tailgate on my old truck (07 fx2) and it was a $500 buff/wax to get it right at a local body shop but it looked fe. I still see the truck around town it still looks fine almost 2 years later. BTW good lookin truck I like the colors.
I'd have them do it also. With the understanding that they will need to do a HAND wax job afterwards. Also, let them know upfront that if it's not to your satisfaction that they will need to redo it. You have spent or are spending (monthly) a lot of money for that truck, and you should get what you expect for that money.
Make them earn their money!!!!!!!
Well I took it in and like magic the swirls are gone. The detail guy at the dealer is awesome! I gave him a 20 for a job well done. Looks as though new paint should look and feel now very happy. Also had the line x done this afternoon check it!
I'm thinking leveling kit now. Will that affect my mpg much? Step bars come in tomorrow.
I think it is a top coat with a Kevlar pulp mixture in the coat. Very durable I am told....we shall see. It is supposed to also resist fading and stay shiney
It is not very hard to get rid of the superficial swirl marks. If you do the three stage Meguires system it works great. Just take your time and you will get great results. It normally takes me four to five hours to complete my truck from wash to final polishing stage.
