'98 Ranger A/C Problem

Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Over the past few days my A/C has gotten progressively warmer to the point it's not blowing cold at all. Early summer I checked the low side pressure and it was at around 30 while running. I added a can to bring it up to 35-40. Blew ice cold air all summer. Now when I check the low side pressure it's around 40 when off. When I run it, the compressor short cycles. When the compressor kicks on, the pressure drops real low (LOW on my guage). When the compressor kicks off, the pressure goes up to about 55-60 then drops back down low for the 2 or 3 seconds until it kicks off. Thought I might have a leak but after seeing the system pressurized like this, i don't think so.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You have a leak.

Compressor short-cycling is the classic symptom of an under-charged system.

Since it WAS charged and working properly but it isn't now, you have a leak since that refrigerant didn't get "used up."
