i just recently had problems with my truck burning through 3 gals of oil in four days. so i parked it and put new injector o-rings and glow plugs in. but still is burning alot of oil so i found out that my turbo had a bent wheel so i replaced it. it finally doesnt smoke as much, but started pourin oil out of where the pedestal is. i dont know if the plunger is bad where it allows the oil to come to the turbo or what. if you know anything get back with me
If you are saying it's pouring oil out of the rod hole on the exhaust side of the turbo pedistal, that's the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve. It's a common leak. You can either plug it, or repair it. It's only purpose is to help the motor warm up. Also, you can unplug it electrically and see if it will stop the leak by not moving. If that's where the leak is from, you can pm me and I'll go into detail about how to fix it.
Now, I have also seen turbos with the center section having a hairline fracture. Those will pour oil, and you'll never see it unless you do a bench test. With the turbo and pedistal out on the bench. Apply air to the small hole, and plug the other. You will immediatly see bubbles out a crack if there is one.
Other than that, there are 2 sets of orings. One between the turbo and pedistal, and in between the pedistal and block.
Those should be your only leak sources at the turbo, except internal.
