Locker identification

Hey guys, dont spend much time over here in the off road threads, but someone here may be able to give me some ideas. Bought a 90 250 4x supercab, about 6 weeks ago. When I bought it, the guy told me it had a lockers in it. I thought sure it does, and really didnt think much of it, but I certainly didnt think much of him either. Well after driving it for a while and some thinking, he may have actually been telling the truth. It tends to chirp going around tight corners and under acceleration in turns. in parking lot situations it really doesnt like to turn, which I attributed to the supercab, and 8 ft box. then today on a gravel road I let her fly and got a real pretty pair of ruts, it started digging. I'll get the axle code off the pillar tomorrow and check with numberdummy to see what Ford says I've got. Does any of these traits sound like something, and anything else I could do to confirm or disspell, short of openning the axle up. I do intend to open it up, and put synthetic lube in it, just not in the immediate future. thanks in advance guys, Dan

The most noticeable sign of a locker that I know is in tight turns under just enough throttle to keep speed the tire will grip then loose grip and continue throughout the turn, much more noticeable with a manual trans.Chirping on tight turns is definitely a sign of a locker, or a very very tight limited slip. Generally limited slips won't chirp around turns under light throttle, but if yer using a decent amount of throttle, well an open diff can do that. But the two wheel peel is certainly not open.

That's as much as I know, but I can tell you someone very knowledgeable will be by shortly.

The axle code will only tell you what ford put in there. "lockers" were never available from ford.
The best it can have fromt ford is a limited slip.
You will have to open the cover to determine what kind of locker it may have.
