My F250 is sold and will be gone this week.
Here the truck I'm want to go look at (its about a 4 hour drive) 93 F250 Diesel 4X4
I'm just a little worried about that many miles. Unfortunately its a automatic but at least it wont suffer from a cracked firewall like mine does.
I know to check spring hangers and frame for rot. But if the blow-by isn't excessive and it sounds healthy and drives decent I will probly go for it.
Do the newer IDI (like this one) still suffer from cavitation?
I talked to the guy and he said once in a while the brake pedal is hard to push. Mine does this sometimes and I believe its because the vacuum pump is weak.
that's a lot of miles.Even for a diesel truck.
You must be prepared at this point to keep putting $ into her to keep it going,at least safely.
IMHO,I'd just keep looking and consider this one a parts truck.
I just got my 93 f250,4x4,xlt 7.3 non turbo, with under 50k original miles (with mint interior) for just a little over 3k!!!
so keep looking!
200k shouldn't be bad at all for these trucks, and still offer a few very good years.I wouldn't want to start with 400k........less you just plan on using it for a snow plow/farm/yard truck?
otherwise, get ready to go over about everything, and expect all parts to be worn out/replaced with pos parts lol etc.
sitting doesn't do 'em any good either.I'm going over my 250 now with probably a few hundred to get it up to par for street/heavy duty work.
all depends on what you need it for.
plowing your drive would be worth 1200 easy I'd say based on his description.
just be ready for parts, parts, and more parts.
He said all the U joints were replaced and it has a new carrier bearing (AKA rebuilt). The engine doesn't scare me as much as the rest of truck- suspension being shot and so on. I found a 94 for $1800 with 102K. If I can get ahold of them I definitely want to look at it. It seems a lot nicer. Reg cab, I don't know if its powerstroke. hopefully but I doubt it.
1,200$ is abit to much for that thing! High mileage, rust holes. While ago there was one around here 1991 F250 diesel 2 wheel drive for 800$ had about the same mileage and same condition. That whould make a damn good farm truck though.
Actually I know a guy that will sell me his '89 F250 2WD 7.3 for $500 once he finds a replacement truck. Nothing really wrong, average Iowa rust, around 200K.
I think he needs to drop the price another 300 or so. Looks rough but it's probably a decent truck. I would drive the hell out of it first but you may need that extra 300 for those new truck suprises. When i bought mine, the night i got it home the starter went out on me and that was about 250 minus the core. Good luck!
Looks like that '93 is sold.
Since my suburban needs batteries, injection pump, and a transmission, and my '88 F250 needs 3 new spring hangers and a carrier bearing- I don't have enough spare time to fix these right now.
I bought an '82 chevy 3/4 2wd 6.2 diesel with a 4 speed. Looks like it has been through hell and back, but is an absolute blast to drive. I got it really cheap, and have so many 73-87 chevy parts between me and may dad its not even funny.
