Need some help for a friend.
He just picked up an 03 F350, auto, ESOF and now that there is snow on the ground he needs 4x4. He just noticed that he doesnt get the 4x4 / 4x4low light on the dash when starting. And when selecting 4x4 / 4x4L he gets nothing. We have tried checking voltage, pulled & checked relays, fuses but have come up with nothing.
Anyone have any tests that we can run to eliminate items? Switch, shift motor or the GEM. Thought I read on here that someone did a reflash of there GEM and theirs worked after that??
I cant see how the vacuum lines would cause the lights to not work at start up. So far we are thinking it has to be electrical. Unless you can suggest some test to try so we can eliminate the vacuum sys.
when my vacuum line under the hood on passenger side came off, my low rnge would not engage and the lite would'nt come on although the 4x4 high engaged and that lite was on. basicly i think engagement throws on the lite. therfore if no vacuum no lite. put her on some grass and see if rears spin.then manually lock front hubs and try again. if it works it a vacuum problem.
Are you driving a bit after switching on? I have noticed the lights or engagement will not happen until there is a little motion, ESOF = gears have to align before engagement. Just a thought as I was in the same boat until I R.T.F.M.
does your heater stay on defrost all the time that usually indicates a vacuum leak i had the same problem with my 03 after a lot of frustration i finally found a broken T in a vacuum line and its worked good ever since p.s my lighs would not come on at startup either until i fixed the leak
