I haave a 99 f250 superduty. I was wondering what other yearts and other model of fords the radio can be changed in? I would ike to get a tape can single cd player.
I was wondering if explorer and ranger radios would interchange?
thanks
Yes, an Explorer(98-2004) or Ranger(98-current) stereo system would be a direct replacement. All you would need would be the DIN removal tools. You could also use a coat hanger and some tin snips to make your own.
Just make sure the replacement is a DIN style (has the two holes on each side of the face) and the plugs on the back match (Ford used two styles). I think you are pretty safe through 2004. I just sold the exact radio you are looking for on Ebay for $15. I used a 6 disc changer out of an 07 Escape/Mariner. It was a direct plug in.
I put this unit in my truck this summer. It works great, they are brand new and sounds amazing. It picks up the local weather broadcast (mine picks up the Environment Canada loop). I just hooked my Sirius Stargazer into the AUX input today. All and all I think it is the best bang for the buck. I love the weather feature for camping......... Plus it plugs directly into the wiring harness without mods and clips into the radio insert location without mods. Oh and yeah- it has pre-outs!
You are better off going aftermarket. You can get a much better system, with better sound, and more features, and most places sell basically everything you need for an install.
what are pre-outs?
How did it fill the whole in the dash? did it fit like the factory one?
Does it have a mp3 jack?
I looked on ebay and they are about 60+18 shipping.
thanks
thanks
Pre-outs are the RCA jacks that allow you to use an external amplifier. Several manufacturers (Pioneer, Alpine, etc.) make units that fit the DIN size hole with MP3 capability. Crutchfield is a good source of info on aftermarket systems.
