A buddy of mine just bought a used 2007 F350 with the 6.0, 17,000 miles. Great looking truck, good power, everything about its awesome. I myself am looking into buying a new truck eventually. Hopefully over the winter. And I was thinking of maybe getting a 2003 or 2004 Ford with the 6.0. It would most likely have over 110,000 miles. Is it safe to say a truck like this would be reliable for me? Ive been reading up on them, and a lot of people say to get rid of the EGR, and do ARP headstuds. This doesnt seem like much of a problem. Is there anything else that would need to be done?
Chances are id get a programmer, probly the Spartan Phalanx going by what I see on here. With head studs that would be no problem as well right?
EGR cooler delete also and you are on the right track.
I have had only good experience with my 4x4 Ford as far the suspension. (95k miles) I also have a dodge with a cummins. The motor is as solid as a rock. The suspension is as solid as a bowl of slippery green mud.
I am not sure but I do not believe that GM uses solid front axles. I would hesitate at that, maybe needlessly.
2005 scurge with a 6.0 ;egr delete, sct x3, CVV routed to air, kitty ran away.
98 ram 12 valve. ( I changed the belt once because I wanted to do something to it)
2004 jetta tdi …………. It just is.
So the suspension would be more of a problem then the motor? My 96 F250 now is holding up great at 163,000. I figured the newer trucks would only be better.
So far on my 04 F350, bone stock except for high performance running boards, engine runs like a top and everything else good. Have about 76,000 KMS on it just one ball joint. I am very glad to have the solid axle instead of that goofy thing that was on my 97.
My old 97 F250 would require ball joints, tie rod ends, pitman, etc roughly every 25000 KMS or about $700 to $1,000 worth of front end work in that amount of kilometres. Otherwise great truck and ran great. That truck had a brutal childhood in the Alberta & NE BC oil patch, so I probably inherited the fruits of a lot of abuse.
I suspect the suspension etc. will last depending on loads, how hard you hit major potholes, pavement vs. washboard road, mtce, etc.
Proper maintenance fluids, filter's etc. suspension wise i agree, I had to do ball joints and shocks, but i should be good to go for another 100k, my truck has over 100k on it, runs great.
I agree... proper maintenance is the key. Yes I've had problems. ball joints. wiring harness etc but all resolved and wife is happy camper. As she has said. She will NOT go back to a car.

I would try to get 05-07 if you can afford it. Then you get coils up front and the better looking grill. Plus 03-04 had more problems. I've got 136,000k , had it for 5 years and am still loving my truck!
haha come on chum, you know you're envious of that turning radius
I'll give you the turning radius, but I'm perfectly happy with the 04 front end, and my 03-04 truck. So what if I need 40 acres to turn my truck around?
EDIT: And NO death wobble either
