I have a '92 f-250 with the BW-1356. It is super difficult to shift, if almost not impossible. Just sprayed a little lube on the linkages today. Any ideas, short of pulling the case out, to get shifting easier?
I just had the same problem with my 96. Before attempting to force it unbolt the shift boot from the floor. Then you should be able to get access to the pivot bolt through the hole in the floor. The bolt should be a torx T-55. This bolt is the pivot point for the shift mechanism. Take this bolt out and clean up the corrosion on the bolt and in the cast aluminum piece that the bolt runs through. Grease everything up really good and reinstall you should be good. Same thing happened to mine though unfortunately I managed to break the cast aluminum piece (My local Ford dealer wanted $288.00 for the piece local junkyard had it for $5.45. Good luck.
Got it fixed today. Thank goodness I have an impact, or it wouldn't have come off. I actually used a pair of pliers of bent back the sheet metal on the floor at the opening to get room. Stuck on the 1" socket, 3" extension, and then the impact. Right inside the cab. Easier than underneath the truck. The plastic bushings were all dry and preventing the shifter from moving, also making it very difficult to remove the bolt, even with the impact. Any way, got it all cleaned up, greases inside the collar, inside the plastic bushings, and on the bolt with wheel bearing grease. Reassemble everything, minus the boot, and tested it, Shifts nice and easy.
