Exhaust

Hey everybody. I have a question about putting in exhaust dumps on my truck. Its a 78 f250 w/a 351m. When I get back from deployment I am going to put headers on and dual exhaust with a crossover pipe (which will be right before the mufflers). So my question is; what is the best way to set up a system to dump the exhaust and bypass the mufflers to make it loud when I want? I am deciding now between a solenoid driven valve or a mechanical pulley system. Any suggestions or ideas from anything you guys have done yourself?

Hey there Airdale, I am an airdale as well. AE2 AIMD off the theodore roosevelt cvn-71. I did 2 delpoyments over to afghanistan and one to Iraq, did 159 days straight at sea on the first one. Anyway, you gotta figure out how much you wanna spend, solenoid types are more money than the mechanical. When you say mechanical do you mean the old choke cable type ones? Or the plate with the bolts on it? I have heard the electric dumpers are prone to leaking, the plate type ones are bullet proof except you can't use em on the fly.

I would go with the cable operated ones. Those electrical dumps are nice for the first 2 months then they won't seal for sh&t.

Hey jackndelphine. I am an AT3 in VQ-2 deployed just south of Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. So anyways I am leaning more towards the mechanical cables. I think it might be better to go with something I can use on the fly so I can close it back up and keep driving without having to pull over and reconnect my exhaust. Also I know a good solenoid that will take the heat from the exhaust is going to be expensive. I don't want to put too much money into something like that. Im already putting well over $2000 into this beast when I get back stateside. So any kits for cable dumps or is it mostly a custom fab thing?

Ahh AT, yes I used to work with them a lot, I heard they were merging the 2 rates, did they ever do that? They wanted me to sign a waiver to re-up as an AE, I was like no thanks, lol. Anyway, I am pretty sure I saw those dumper kits in Summit, you should check there, or maybe Jegs. I was gonna get them for my Mustang. Where are you from?

Im stationed in Oak Harbor, WA but from San Diego originally. No they haven't merged us but I have heard rumors about them doing it. It's pointless because what I do is nothing what you do, especially on my platform. But yea I'll take a look at summit and see what they have.

So I think I am going to go with the kit from Summit. It's kind of expensive $300.00 but it is the entire kit and I can just weld it in when I put my headers and pipes in. Thanks guys
