Deleting emission hoses

Im working on a 86 F250 with a 351W. The motor I pulled, that Id never heard run had alot of the emission hoses removed. The motor Im installing has alot of the small diameter hoses. Some are plugged. My question is this. Witch hoses are critical to the system and witch ones are. The motor dosent have a smog pump. The motor is a 4V. If anyone has any IDEAS please respond. THANKS

All the hoses are needed for the system to work. Each one has a job, and will have an affect on how the engine runs. You can look at the diagram on the radiator support, and go here to learn what each one does(Dictionary of Automotive Terms A-Z) or you can forget the whole thing and buy a aftermarket carb and bolt it on and not have hardly any of the hoses(you will still have one or two).

I don't know that there is an easy answer to this. My suggestion would be to buy a Chiltons manual for your model and reference the emissions diagram for the motor you are putting in and reference that to the plate on the truck. You may need to do a quick read on the function of each component if you don't know what they are.
If you are confident in your knowledge of components, then you could pull up a schematic off the web.
Short of a thousand pics and as many words, I don't think we could solve this here, but maybe someone who knows more about it than me could help you out. It was a nightmare trying to restore my '80 after a yokel PO ripped everything out because his county was emissions exempt.

emissions removal

Thanks for the information. I kinda thought it wouldnt be an easy fix. I will however look through my books and see what can learn, about the functions. THANKS AGAIN

The biggest question is what are the emissions requirements for where you live. That will decide your answer.

Is it none at all, or visual confirmation like mine in the sticks of western NY or, the worst option, actual testing right off the exhaust pipe?

The sad thing is that almost every year seemed to have a different route for vacuum hoses, pumps, EGR valves, etc.

I could suggest all kinds of back woods solutions like VIN switching or emissions gutting.

Wasn't 86 when Ford switched to EFI for everything but the 460?

emmissions

I dont think there any emissions testing around here. Just got the truck running. Running real rich. I think 87 was the year for EFI. Im going back out to see if I can figure anything out. Thanks
