Trouble Code: P1000

Does anyone know what that means? The check engine light is NOT on but I looked for a code because my truck is idleing rough, and when driving, when the overdrive kicks in, it vibrates really bad. As if a bad U-joint on your drive shaft. The truck has been in a feild for about 5 months broke down so any clue? Haynes manual says nothing about P1000.

A P1000 means testing incomplete. The truck needs to be driven to clear this code. Ford OBDII Diagnostic Trouble Codes - P1000-P1999 - Codes Specific to Ford vehicles .: Articles

Have you checked the u-joints? Has it been driven very much at all? If not, when you drive it, it will probably throw a code if it's engine related...

If you've got a bad cop, it'll vibrate like that in OD and cause a rough idle.

Yeah, there seems to be play when shifting from reverse to forward (Vise Versa) so I guess a new shaft is something to look at. But what did you mean by "bad cop"? Is that short for something?

cop = coil on plug

These engines have 8 individual coil packs sitting directly on top of the spark plugs.

You will get that code if the battery has been disconnected or went flat. The code will disappear once you have completed a "drive cycle".

It's a 98 model, right? I don't know if they used the coil-on-plugs that year. You may have a coil pack on each bank and plug wires. Either way, it sounds to me like a dead miss.......

Yeah, its a '98. It has the coils on plug. But if it is a miss, wouldn't the truck throw a code? I haven't drove it yet because I need new tires which may be the reason its vibrating, but my trucks battery went dead because I left the key on while I had it on the lift; which was a while. Thanks for the help.

Drive it down the road a couple of miles and back and see if it doesn't throw a code for you. Make sure you get it warmed up.......

P1000 is the ECM's way of letting you know that all of the monitors have not run.
The monitors are specific programs that the ECM runs when conditions are correct for them to run so they can verify that various parts of the computer controls are working correctly.

An example of a monitor that is difficult to get to run in my part of the country this time of year is the EVAP monitor. It requires that the fuel level in the fuel tank be between 1/4 and 3/4 full and the outside air temperature must be above 40 degrees, among other criteria, before it will run. (The temp in my area never got above 32 degrees for the whole month of February this year.)

Once all the monitors run successfully the P1000 will go away.

The code P1000 tells you that 1 or more of 7 tests that are done on the system have not completed.
If any test fails, a code is set to tell you which system and what part of the test failed.
The failure code does not tell you what parts to replace.
When all the tests complete without failure, the code 1000 clears.
If there are specific drivability issues, they are addressed after the computer test are done, pass or not.
After a trouble code is set, that test is done.
When any test completes and no code is set, the test finds no system trouble.
.
There are others posting replies about their issues that just confuses the original post and is not helpful.

Good luck.

pretty sure the above quote explains it, nothing to really look into.
the code will either go away on it's own or set another code and the light will come on.
