I rebuilt my engine and got it running good yesterday. I went to put it into gear and it wont do anything forward or reverse. The fluid level is fine. Has this happened to anyone before? What would cause this?
The modulator is a small canister that attaches to the transmission and controls the shifts via an attached vacuum line.
It would control your cruising shifts from 1-2-3 but would not effect the mechanical shift into drive or reverse.
Make sure that the linkage from the shift collar is attached and freely moving when you select a gear. Then make sure that the rod running from the shift collar to the transmission is connected and moving.
Is the shifter loose, has no resistance, and drops out of its selected gear easily? The detent may have snapped, losing the ability to select a gear. Does the engine change its behavior when you select a gear?
I'm betting on the transmission is dead as a doornail.
I played around with the transfer case shifter and tada I have forward and reverse. I found out that the transmission was rebuilt not too long ago so I should be in good shape! Thank you guys!
