what would the difference be between a 74-80 mustang 2 suspension and a 79 merury cougar xr7.

Doesn't a 79 Cougar have a strut style suspension? If so, you need something a whole lot stronger than an Effie inner fenderwell to attach it to. MII IFS is basically self contained.

Mustang suspension

Actually i should have said that i wanted to use the suspension parts and assemble it using a after market mustang crossmember.

The Mustang II suspension should have changed in 79 with the introduction on the foxbody platform that year.
