I have a 1990 f150 4.9L That will not run on the rear tank. I have installed a new fuel pump and it ran well for a while after that. The problem started when I had the rear tank selected it would run fine, but sometimes not start after being shut off. Then the problem progressed to not running at all on the rear tank. when I flip the switch on the dash, the gauge switches, but the pump does not. I've been told that it is the fuel selector valve located on the frame rail, However, I do not have any valve like this on the frame rail. From what I am understanding from some of the forums is that in 1990 changes were made and This is probably being caused by just the switch in the dash??????? Any help that you guys can give me on this would be much appreciated!!!
No you do not have a valve on the frame in 1990.
You either have a bad switch on the dash or a bad pump in the rear tank. I know you said you changed it but that does not mean it was a good one. If it is not the switch then take the pump back to where you got it and get another one.
Unplug the plug at the frame of the back tank and use a test light with a bulb in it to see if your switch is good or not. You may have to ground pin #6 of the test connector and turn on the key or else you will only see power for one second.
