Rev limitor

I have a 91 injected 302, and was wondering how I could bump the the rev limitor up to 6000 rpm or even just take it out. Guess I picked a tad to low of a gear ratio for my drivetrain combo and some times find myself in a position where I have a more power to use but not enough to grab another gear or maybe cant afford trying. What can I do? Buy some 39.5's to help the gear ratio! haha not in the budget at the moment as Id need to upgrade my front end first. Seriously though, is there anything I can do? I dont know much about the computer or anything so I dont even know if its possible

Take it to a tuner or have a chip made , thats the only way i know how to do it . But on a stock motor i don't know if you want to rev it to much over the stock limiter .... Lew

A stock motor makes peak HP at around 4500rpm so reving it more is just making noise. I suspect you are not hitting a rev limiter just floating the valves if the motor looses power up there now.

Im not losing power, just running out of gear. I know the motors power is dropping up there in the rpms, I wasn't asking if id get more power at 6 grand then 5.

Well as far as I know the stock rev limiter is around 6000rpm anyway, so if your motor is shutting down before that it's not the electronics doing it.

4.88, 4.56 would have been a better combo but I didn't wanna be wishing I went lower when I had the chance. I wouldnt trade my first gear/low range ratio for anything

Mud is where I have the problem and sometimes climbing hills. On the street I do start in second, If I had the M5OD still I'd probly start in first.

Is it safe to be pushing these truck engines to 5500-6000RPM anyways with stock internals? I know they are losing power up there, but I'm just curious. I know the 302 is a revver with the 3" stroke, but I'm just curious.
