I'm trying to change the fuel filter on a 99 explorer 4 L OHC. What fuse do I need to pull to disable the fuel pump, so I can run it dry before I break the lines ? I checked my owners manual and it doesn,t specify one for the fuel pump on the chart for 4.0 L. It does however for the 5.0 L.
Read your owner's manual to find the fuel pump reset switch. Slap it so it trips and removes power to the fuel pump. Reset it when you're done.
You might as well learn where it's at since it will disable your vehicle in the event of a minor accident. If you know where it is, you can recover from that type of incident.
You may also wish to download the most recent printing of the owner's manual. It identifies the correct fuse.
You could just put a rag around the shrader valve on the fuel rail and poke the center to relieve the pressure.
You could also find the fuel pump relay and pull it. Sorry my 99 cd is throwing a fit and I can't look up the fuse(it may have a fusible link instead).
