I have a 300 with the old 390 radiator still in it. Currently I am using two Toyota blower fans, but they only cool about 1/3 of the area. Also, they don't leave room for my trans cooler.
I was at the junkyard and noticed a radiator and fan set-up on a Grand Marquis with a v8 that looked really nice, with 2 speed killer fan. I don't want to make a mistake by swapping them. The Grand Marquis rad. was only about 1" thick, and 26X18", with a separate trans cooler behind it. Do you think that would be large enough for my F-250? Sometimes I do haul, and sometimes I do go into the desert.
if you can make it all fit, go for it. ck your results. if it doesn't perform like you hoped, sell it. have fun with it, if the price is within your budget. if you are dealing with a junkyard, you may be able to do some wheeling and dealing. i have used merc block, jeep wheels, thunderbird carb, bronco steering column, and dodge bed, all on a 77 ford pu. probably more that i have forgotten
in my experience too big of rad can be as harmful as too small the engine needs to run at decent temp too last. most deisels run at 195 around here. i would try to get a 300 rad from a rad shop. stock the usually 2or3 row but can be recored to 3 or 4. i put a 289 ford in a ****** long ago would up using a mustang rad .my advice would be to use as close the factory size rad as possible . then add a row for the desert
